Bokbo supports World Earth Day‘s call to action – environmental and climate literacy is the engine for advancing environmental and climate laws and policies but also for accelerating green technologies and jobs.
Education is the key to understanding why protecting our earth is so important. Through education we learn what is causing climate change and the impacts that has on our environment. This knowledge leads to understanding what actions we can take to protect what we can.
Saving the planet from further destruction is being taught in Australian schools and community organisations and initiatives such as Clean Up Australia Day focus our attention on how we can help.
We have laws to protect our native wildlife, our waterways, and air quality. We have waste reduction and recycling programs, but other countries are showing that we can do better.
While we can make a small difference by being mindful of the impact our decisions have on the planet’s future, big changes can happen when we lobby government to develop and implement policy, laws and regulations. We have seen Australians successfully fight against tree logging in Tasmania, New South Wales and Queensland – preserving old growth forests so that their natural ecosystems remain intact.
On World Earth Day 22 April – there are a lot of activities. Bokbo will be participating in the March for Science – you can also join the march in your nearest city.
We have also downloaded some of the toolkits from the World Earth Day’ website to share with you over the next week.
Communities around the world are developing local projects – plant a tree, let the kids experience nature, recycle – whatever each of us do everyday can make a difference to their future.
Our children, grandchildren, and future generations will look back on the actions we took to help them protect Mother Earth for them.
